Quick Catch-Up

Well it's been a while since I last blogged and a lot has happened.

I was contacted a few weeks ago by Gary from Avallach Technology to see if I was interested in "hooking up" to design websites with him. He has the techie know-how and I have the design side of things covered. We've had a lot of interest about our WAHP Starter Package, mostly from Facebook and people that I have previously designed logos etc for.

Our first joint venture was launched last week, and I'm proud of what we've achieved. I had created BombonBody's logo, business cards, Facebook welcome page, profile image and when our Starter Package popped up Kylie grabbed the opportunity.

Next in line is my client from Mexico - La Goulue!! Once again she's a client that I have already created a few designs for. I can't wait until Susana opens up a store. She's said that when she does her Aussie Designer has to be there with her. And I'd love to taste her scrumptious looking cheesecakes.

Then there's websites needed for Diamond Constructions, Sweet Cheek Crafts and Naptastic Cakes and Gifts. We're going to be busy! If by chance anyone reading this is a home based business, would love to get your business online and have become increasingly frustrated by the limited options available to you then why not email me (cass@berrydigitaldesigns.com.au) or Gary (gary@avallach.com) for your chance to secure a web design plus hosing and domain names all for the low cost of $397.

My webpage is a work in progress!!! I have lots of homework to do. I'm not such a good writer so the task is rather daunting. Hopefully Gary can "tweak" the About Me section so it sounds good. I have no idea what to write.

I finally met Gary after about 3 weeks of emails back and forth. We had to meet a prospective client together so decided to have him and his wife and son around for breakfast before the meeting!

Well that's it for today, dinner's almost ready :)

Happy Monday

Today has been a good day so far and it's only 12pm!

I've had a couple of emails requesting quotes for Logos, business cards, facebook welcome pages, gift vouchers and letterheads. I also received a phone call from a mate of someone I did business cards for a few weeks ago wanting a quote for the same!

I'm also in the process of finalising the template for Kylie Grima's Facebook Page for her UndercoverWear business, and waiting to hear back from Minuteman that the bookmarks for Mrs Mills are ready!!

All in all it's been a busy couple of weeks.

BDD was mentioned in Sweet Cheek Crafts' blog this morning with our June Specials, along with some other great work at home businesses:
http://sweetcheekcrafts.blogspot.com/2010/06/monday-madness.html

I've also been working with Renee from Sweet Cheek Crafts & Sweet Cheek Parties to create a party decor range. She showed me a photo of the first two designs that we've started on! They look so good. I can't wait to see the whole range when they're all finished.

On a slightly different note: What a shame about the Socceroos going down 4-0 in the early hours of this morning. I set my alarm for 2.30am, got up and lay on the couch to watch it. I think I dozed off at half time and missed Germany's last two goals and Cahill's red card. I say "BRING BACK TRIMMERS"!!! Haha. Paul Trimboli was my most favourite player when I was growing up. I even met him twice, once in Darwin in 1989 and again in Perth in 1998. I thought he was awesome! I even used to use the #9 shirt when I played because he did!

And watching 60 Minutes or Sunday Night last night I did not recognise Craig Johnston when they did the story on the Socceroos. He did not look like the same superstar that I had dinner with in Darwin in 1989!!

I WON, I WON, I WON!!!!!!

The Logo Competition was finalised today. I had a total of 42 votes on my logo design. I can't thank everyone enough for voting for my design. I wonder what I will choose as my prize now! I have already had Renee from Sweet Cheek Crafts contact me with a query about business cards.

I have had a very busy couple of days designing business cards, a letterhead and brochure for "La Goulue". Susana has sent me lots of photos of her cheesecakes to put into her brochure and they look so yum! Pity she's all the way over in another country and I don't get to sample them!

I also had an email from my mum asking if I could do a design for their business cards and magnets as Vistaprint were having a big special on this weekend and they wanted to get some printed through there. The special sounded really good so I've decided to design and order myself some too. 250 cards for FREE!! Well they've ended up costing me around $35 to be printed, by the time I get charged for uploading the front image, the back image and pay for postage. I still think it's pretty good! I saved myself the same as what I'm paying almost. They should look 100% better than the ones I did myself on that perforated card paper!

That's about it for today! Just wanted to share my good news!!

Logo Competition & First International Query

I've entered myself into a logo competition (twice). A company was looking for a new logo.

We are looking for a unique digital logo that we can use on marketing material such as business cards, stickers, etc as well as as our Facebook logo.

The entry with the most votes at midnight on Friday, 21st May will win a Sweet Cheek Crafts gift voucher worth $40.  To vote you need to "like" Sweet-Cheek-Crafts, go into their Photos, find the Competition Album and type "VOTE" under the logo that you like the best.

To be honest, I haven't really looked into their products closely to see what I would like to spend my $40 voucher on, I just thought I'd have a go to build up  my profile a little bit.

FIND MY ENTRY HERE #6 AND #23

Thought I'd add photos here too:

This first one I really liked but did up about 12 different colour schemes before I found the right one. I chose the brown and pink because that is the colour scheme on their blog.

The second one I whipped up yesterday in about 15 minutes while I was bored!!! I think it's cute too, but I still like the first one best.

On another exciting note... a Facebook Jovi friend has a business making cheesecakes and she's asked me if I could create a logo and then implement it on all her stationery, business cards, flyers, etc, etc! And she also needs the boxes for her cheesecakes designed too. I am soooooo excited!

She lives in Mexico, so unfortunately I cannot taste her cheesecakes that look so scrumptious in her photos! All she is waiting for now is a business name!! She has come up with a few and we were brainstorming over MSN yesterday. I think she's going to poll her family to find which one she should use.

I'm getting ideas in my head already for the logo, but it's a little bit hard to attempt anything without a name! Hopefully it won't take too long before I can start on something.

Oh, and I've already been asked to quote on doing up some Greeting Cards for another Facebook Jovi friend.

Gotta love the Bon Jovi Family from all over the world :)

Web Address

I now have an easier web address for my Facebook page. I wish I'd found out how to create one yesterday before putting stickers on the back of my nephews birthday invites that said "find me on Facebook".

www.facebook.com/BerryDigitalDesigns

That is so much easier than the other version http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=174281&id=370797398790#!/BerryDigitalDesigns?ref=ts&ajaxpipe=1&__a=10 don't you think?

You can set up your own by going to here: http://www.facebook.com/username/
Then click on 'Set a username for your pages', select your page, and type your desired name. Make sure you decide the name you want to use first though, as once you select it, you can't change it.

Now I can start doing up some flyers (woohoo) without having to wait for my proper web page to be set up, as I have no idea how much longer that it going to take Shane.

Frustrated!!!

How does everyone get their business up and running?

I have a facebook business fan page and have around 215 "fans", or "likers" as they're called these days. But I am yet to get any work from them. I see all the other businesses who I "like" posting to their wall that they're doing this logo design, and that facebook welcome page, and this business card design, and that gift voucher design... etc, etc, etc. Every day they're at least getting 2-3 jobs and I'm sitting there twiddling my thumbs and doing up samples for my portfolio.

I'm even doing random draws (thanks www.random.org) to find winners to give Discount Vouchers to. I'm notifying the winners and asking them to contact me with their details so I can email them the voucher. I've drawn 5 different winners and not one has contacted me yet!! The first draw was just for one winner, but the last 2 I've made two winners. They're given a week to contact me before I do a redraw. I've sent them PMs and also tagged them in my status if they're a FB friend. But still nothing! WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

I know I have only been running this hobby business since December but I would've thought that someone other than family would need my services.

On a more cheerful note I have been given a laptop as my Mother's Day present - 3 days early :D  Now I don't have to be shut up in the study while working. We now just need a wireless router so I don't have to be connected to so many wires at once! And all I need is some work to help pay for the laptop... There I go, getting frustrated again!!!

Long time no write!!!

Well it's been quite a while since I updated my blog. Probably around 3 months!! I could say it's a good thing that I haven't had time to jump on here, that just means business has been busy... or it could also mean that I've been getting too engrossed in my FB games :-D

Business has been good. Pretty much one job a fortnight. I can't complain about that as I'm still trying to get word around. I have to say though, that without family (and you Aunty Pauline) I wouldn't have had 3/4 of the work that I have had.

My cousin who runs a hair salon contacted me last week for business cards and gift vouchers. She thought she'd go through me rather than their usual place. And another cousin last night said that they need more business cards too and should get me to design them some new ones. Like I said, you gotta love family.

I self promoted a couple of weekends ago to a friend of a friend who said they hadn't done thank you cards for their wedding yet. In the end I got the pleasure of designing the cards for them, and they required 90 of them!

I don't think I have much else to write apart from I hope everyone had a safe and happy Easter, and check out my facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Perth-Australia/Berry-Digital-Designs/349895420441?ref=ts

January update

I posted off the save the date cards last week and had an email back yesterday to say that she had received them and they were exactly what she was looking for and the colours were perfect!! She may be back for some Thank You cards after the wedding also.

I have also been busy doing some blog headers and twitter backgrounds for a friend, at no cost as she's promoting my business on her page.

I was sent an email two days ago asking if I designed logos and how much I would charge. At that exact moment I was trying to work out a cost for designing logos! I investigated a little and the price range is ridiculous!! I think the average would've been over $100 at least, one major business was charging $300 plus the hourly rate of $132/hr for the graphic artist! And someone suggested that I shouldn't charge anything less than $500. I sent off my quote but the lady had decided to have a bit of a play herself so didn't need my services. I'm a little disappointed (she was a repeat customer so I was giving her a discount too), but at least I got to work out my prices!!!

I designed myself a little flyer to hand out to people, and maybe do a little letterbox drop. While they were printing the lady at the photo lab was having a read. She asked me if she could keep a copy as people ask her all the time if she knows anyone that does what I do. So now I have her handing out my details... Hopefully I'll get some business from that.

A friend asked me to do a logo for her Nickelback facebook group the other day. She's doing me a really big favour so I thought I'd give her my time and do a favour for her too. She really really liked it so I'm thinking of maybe getting it printed out A3 size and posting it over to her as a thank you for what she's doing for me. Then today she asked me if she could use it for something that she's doing for the group, a little surprise for all the members. I won't say on here unless any of you who read this are actually in the group. But it will also advertise my business a bit. Hopefully by the time she does the surprise I will have my website up and running so she can print that on what she's doing.

Well I had better go. I haven't blogged in ages and my other blog has seriously been neglected. I still haven't updated Christmas day on that one!!! Oops... I've been rather busy with all this setting up the business stuff.

Take care, enjoy your night.

So busy

This is just a quick post to say: Wow!! I'm so glad Christmas and the New Year are over. I think this has been the busiest Christmas ever. Visitors from Melbourne, visitors from France and my sister visiting with her boys for a couple of nights... all in the same week!

And also: I had an email the other day from someone wanting some Save the Date cards. She was referred to me by someone... I have no idea who, but I know how. If you can prove it was you I will give you a 30% discount on any order you place with me.
